Gastronomy tips

Its characteristic flavor gives it intensity and personality. However, did you know that consuming it increases your sense of well-being? We will tell you more about this and other curious facts about this cheese.

Origin. Historians agree that its origins date back to the 12th century. Proof of this is a literary quote included in the Decameron, one of the foundational works of Italian literature, written by Giovanni Boccacio in 1350.

Size. Another aspect of Parmesan cheese that attracts our attention is its large proportions. Each unit weighs around 40 kilograms and 600 liters of milk are used to make it.

Age. This type of cheese needs to be matured for at least 2 years to be called Parmesan. In some special cases, it can even be stored for 36 months.

Happiness. Parmesan cheese is high in tryptophan. Several studies claim that this amino acid puts us in a good mood because it is responsible for activating serotonin, a substance that secretes melatonin, one of the well-being and happiness hormones

Museum. Would you like to find out more about this type of cheese? Opened in 2003, Parmigiano Reggiano has its own ethnographic museum located in the province of Parma. It exhibits 120 objects dating from the nineteenth and early twentieth.
